PETROCARIBE TO DAVA’S RESCUE
Thanks to a generous contribution from PetroCaribe, the Dominica Amateur Volleyball Association’s training programme for Dominica’s national volleyball teams is expected to continue without too much strain on the Association’s limited financial resources.
In response to an appeal by the DAVA, the joint venture company of the Governments of Venezuela and Dominica has decided to provide the Association with forty (40) gallons of diesel monthly, to enable it to operate a generator installed at the Stockfarm Sports Complex, to facilitate training of the national volleyball teams at nights.
The DAVA had last year, undertaken rehabilitation of the courts and lighting at the extensively vandalized Stockfarm facility after it had been left unutilized for over a decade as a result of a protracted legal battle between the Government of Dominica and a Trinidadian company contracted to construct the sports complex. The matter was eventually settled in favour of the Government of Dominica.
The DAVA had installed a generator made available by LIME, a partner of over two decades, to facilitate night training during the preparation of its teams for last year’s World Championships qualifying games.
The DAVA has expressed its appreciation to PetroCaribe for the company’s tangible support of its efforts toward the development of our youth through the sport of volleyball, and it is confident that the investment will pay dividends in terms of the success of our teams and the overall development of volleyball in Dominica.
